The two words that come to mind when I think of Evelyne are “openness" and “growth.” From the moment she set foot on our campus in Autumn of 2019, she’s intentionally but authentically built bridges. As a volunteer with FIUTS (Foundation for International Understanding Through Students), and at the Seattle Aquarium, as a fixture at community events, and later at the helm for virtual ones, she’s been ever-present and always able to make her fellow students smile and feel at home, even a thousand miles from her own. Evelyne’s growth has been on display in many realms, including in the classroom. But the most visible for me has been through her work with the Comm Lead Consultancy. When the pandemic hit, we realized as a program that we were ahead of the curve in facing a challenge that was soon going to be familiar to everyone on the planet; finding ways to congregate and share authentic connections while physically separated. Evelyne not only mastered the technology and enabled our program to do just that, she shared that knowledge with dozens of community organizations that were struggling with the challenge of bringing their fundraisers, meetings and other essential events online. Thanks to her work, our program’s networking events and trainings have actually become more robust and better attended then they were prior to the pandemic.

Evelyne did a wonderful job supporting the Communication Leadership (Comm Lead) graduate program during her time as a student in the program, in particular her work as our Events Coordinator a role she held from June of 2020 through to March of 2021. During the global pandemic, all activities at Comm Lead went online, and took on new complexities when it came to the technology, program/agenda design, and event management. Evelyne was tireless in her approach at all phases of Comm Lead event programming and worked closely with Comm Lead faculty, staff, and students to design programs that were thoughtful and memorable in their execution. Her commitment to communication and feedback loops is a hallmark of her work ethic.

I work with Evelyne at the UW School of Nursing for media production. The bulk of our recent work together has been problem solving technology issues for Zoom lectures, and Evelyne has been a crucial force in ensuring that nursing classes run smoothly amidst the 2-week turn around of our campus lock-down. Evelyne is one of the greatest coworkers I’ve ever worked with. We both work at School of Nursing as video assistants and she always impresses me with her professionalism and effectiveness.
